The most obvious career choices for English Majors are writing, publishing, journalism, and teaching. However, other less intuitive job options include positions in advertising, public relations, acting, law, business, marketing, and directing.
Our Department offers one of the most challenging majors on campus.  Our discipline lies at the heart of the University’s Core curriculum, so, every undergraduate student of Arts or Commerce has taken or will take classes with our faculty.  Our faculty teaches subjects like English Literature, Communication Skills, Mass Communication and Business Communication. We are passionate about our teaching, scholarship, and creative endeavors.

As a department our aim is that any student, who chooses to become an English major through Mithibai College, should become an active and sophisticated reader – of texts, history, and culture. From such critical reading should come engaged, incisive, and graceful writing that is capable of contributing to both traditional and contemporary discourses – from poetics to politics.

The English major concentrates on Literature. We emphasise critical thinking and composition skills, close-reading and textual analysis, methodological awareness and theoretical sophistication, historical breadth, and social awareness. Our endeavor is that the   English majors should share and exchange their critical and creative ideas with others in the hope of becoming and remaining thoughtful and active citizens – of the university, nation and the world.
