The Department of Commerce was started in the year 1980. From few hundred students in 1980, the Commerce stream has grown by leaps and bounds and at present there are 8 divisions of F.Y. B com (1 special division and 7 regular divisions), 7 divisions of S.Y.B.Com and T.Y.B.Com as well. There are over 2000 students admitted in various subjects of Commerce for the A.Y. 2018-19.
 Dr.Neela Nair is the Head of the Department. At present, there are 6 full-time faculties in the department. 03 members of the faculty are Ph.D. holders and the others are pursuing their doctoral studies.
The Department of Commerce is a recognized Ph.D. Center in Commerce, affiliated to University of Mumbai, and specializes in ‘Business Policy and Administration’.. The Research Center has 03 Recognized Ph.D. Guides with an intake capacity of 16. At present, 14 research scholars have registered for Ph.D. programme.
 The college has been granted Autonomous Status from the A.Y 2018-19. The Department of Commerce has taken initiative in introducing new subjects at the undergraduate level viz., ‘Practices of Management’, ‘Sales Management’ and ‘Entrepreneurship Management’. 
The Department has started M.Com w.e.f. 2010-11.
The faculty members of the department regularly participate in seminars, workshops and conferences at  State, National and International levels.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP FAIR, 2018

Entrepreneurship Fair, 2018 was initiated and organized by Reclamo in association with the Department of Commerce on 1st February, 2018 and extended till 6th of February, 2018 in the admission area, Mithibai College. The Entrepreneurship fair was organized to polish the knowledge of business concepts gained by the participant and also poised to spread entrepreneurship awareness to the entire student community of the college and their families and indirectly to the public at large.
The respected principal of the College Dr. Rajpal Shripat Hande inaugurated the event along with the faculty of the Commerce department.
The Entrepreneurship Fair, 2018 was a huge success and highly appreciated and well patronized by the buyers. There were in all 19 groups of student entrepreneurs, each with their innovative business names such as Chocolate Stock Exchange, Caseopedia, Sydelicious, Pop Tastes, Online Wishlist, Creative Creations, Food Station, Dhanvantri, Cherry Blast, IQ Corner, We Try Until We Die, Tummy Treats, PNP Nails, Artistic Much, Around the Beads, Plate Time, Box Of Ornaments and Chaat Chaska well displayed on their stalls selling a wide variety of items based on their skills, interests and hobbies.
Items displayed and sold during this fair include handmade chocolates, accessories like handmade jewellery and readymade jewellery and utility items like eco-friendly pen stands, baskets and photo frames made of paper.
A wide variety of homemade cuisine like chaats, Italian, Mexican and a wide range of desserts were on sale to cater the foodies.
On the spot nail art services fascinated a lot of individuals and had maximum footfalls with appointments lined up for the next day of the fair.
Students had the benefit of hands on experiential learning of actual market situation, crowd handling, order taking and execution, billing, dealing with cash, maintaining accounts, marketing and promotions.
The students did an excellent job in handling the customers and managing their stalls in a professional manner.
Dr. Rajpal Shripat Hande was impressed with the students’ skills and boosted the student entrepreneurs with his kind words of encouragement. There were several staff members, parents and students who patroned the stalls. It was a successful event with positive and suggestion feedbacks.
Reclamo ‘17

With the will to inculcate the spirit of modern day advertising and marketing techniques among students, Mithibai College conceptualised Reclamo, a dynamic and effervescent festival which celebrates the vigour of a modern day entrepreneur. “Stun the Vestige of Creativity” was the theme of the inter - collegiate event, Relcamo’ 17. 23rd and 24th of August 2017 were marked as the D-Day’s. The core - committee members of Reclamo were led brilliantly under the vital guidance of Prof. Aurora Vaz. The members of Reclamo commenced their work from 12th August 2017, a week before the D-Days. Tackling every hindrances and cherishing every moments with equal measures, Reclamo reached its D-Days.
The Reclamo’ 17 was inaugurated by the honourable Principal of Mithibai College, Dr. Rajpal Shripat Hande. The diya was lit by the Principal followed by the commerce faculty. Later, the event was graced with an encouraging speech by the Principal, with which Reclamo started off with its events with joy and great excitement.
Reclamo’ 17 organised six events to bring out the best of advertising and marketing knowledge within the participants. The events were comfortably conducted at Conference Room and on the fourth floor of Mithibai College: Room 414, Room 405 (Annexe). With a total number of 187 participants, Reclamo’ 17 embraced success. And the six events were as follows:
  • Logo Rush, wherein the participants were required to crack 60 brand logos in 10 minutes.
  • Mouth Watering Charades, wherein the participants were supposed to recreate the brand logos and its slogans.
  • Entrepreneurship, wherein the participants were asked to come up with their new creative and innovative ideas of businesses.
  • Turn Courts, wherein the participants were supposed to debate on the topics related to the controversial brands.
  • Fashion Show, wherein the participants were supposed to endorse their brought products.
  • Twist-o-Mania, a brand product housie event.

The top three of all the aforesaid events were declared as winners and were felicitated with certificates and prizes. It was a great honor to have Prof.Mr. Tejas Gandhi, Dr. Vidya Premkumar, Prof. Mr. Pankaj Kataria, Prof.Ms. Sonali Chatterjee and Prof.Ms. Abhidha Vyas as the extraordinary judging panel.
And with this, the advertising fest of the Mithibai College, the Reclamo’ 17 came to an end.

  • A guest lecture was conducted on 23rd August 2016 for the students of TYBCOM in the areas of shipping lines, major documents and environmental issues concerned with Mumbai ports. The students were enthusiastic and asked several technical questions related to trade. The guest speaker, who is a Mithibai Alumna, Ms.Pearl Dumasia, has worked with MSA Global Logistics Pvt., Freight Forwarding Agency at Nhava Sheva. She has highlighted the important elements of export business.

Reclamo’18 -Stun the Vestige of Creativity 
Reclamo is sole advertising annual festival of Mithibai College which is conducted under the guidance of the teachers from the Commerce department : Dr Anjali Patekar ( Vice Principal of Commerce Department), Professor Neela Nair ( Head of Department- Commerce) Professor Michael Vaz, Professor Lakshmi , Professor Aurora Vaz and Professor Alpesh Mehta.  Reclamo’18 aimed at enhancing the balance of corporate knowledge with sparkling creativity. 10 events that included treasure hunt, debate and mock stock exchange were conducted on the 11th and 12th of September. Renowned photographer, Rajeev Rai was the judge of our closing event : Fashion Show ( Glitter the litter). Reclamo'18 on the whole was a successful fest making it an inter-college one this year with a participation of 8 colleges and it went through very smooth which mainly incorporated diverse elements which cater to all students irrespective of their academic inclination.Reclamo’18 continued to stand true to it’s motto :Stun the Vestige of Creativity by stimulating innovation among the students.
