“Botany – the science of the vegetable kingdom is one of the most attractive, most useful, and extensive departments of human knowledge. It is above every other, the science of beauty”. – Sir Joseph Paxton.
Department of Botany, SVKM’s Mithibai College, was established in the year 1961. Botany was taught as a part of Biology up to Jr. college. In 1979 the Botany subject was started as a Degree course in B.Sc and then continued as 6 units in the Three year degree course. The Department has flourished in terms of manpower and programs offered since its inception. It offers the post graduate courses including M.Sc. by paper and also by Research in Plant Taxonomy (Angiosperms) and Medicinal Botany (Pharmacognosy & Phytochemistry). The University of Mumbai recognized the department as a center for Ph. D (Doctoral Programme) degree in Botany in the year 2011-12.&

Our mission is to strive for providing an excellent environment for learning and research in Botany / plant sciences and produce graduates and post graduates equipped with skills necessary to fulfill their role in contemporary society.

Our vision is to maintain our position as the premier department of higher learning and research in Botany / plant sciences and to further commit ourselves to academic excellence.
